Objectives & scope
- The revitalization component focuses on building capacity and a sustainable culture for experimental science in 1000 schools. Key activities include: Needs Assessment: Review current practices and capacity for fostering an inquiry-based learning environment in science. Capacity Building Workshops: Train faculty on exploratory teaching, use of maker spaces, educational tech, making in-house lab tools, and lab safety. Supporting Materials: Develop comprehensive experimental science lesson plans for Grades 6-12, with clear benchmarks and aligned to school curricula. Master Trainers: Select and train faculty as Master Trainers to provide ongoing local capacity building Refresher Training: Establish a system for regular skill refreshers conducted by Master Trainers. Community of Practice: Create a network for teachers/staff to share resources, support each other, and continue professional development, both in-person and online. School Action Plans: Help schools develop plans to promote a "model school of science" culture, including policies to increase lab use and scientific discussion. These can be shared with neighboring schools via regional hubs.
